În alte vremuri, Maria Magdalena stătea la baza Crucii, după ce toți plecaserǎ, ca sǎ îl plângǎ pe Iisus. Azi, nu mai avem asemenea Magdalene, avem o tânǎrǎ cu blugi roșii și Nike-uri neon ce transmite live crucificarea, o documentează, vrea sǎ se vadǎ bine transmisia, aşa cǎ nu are timp de smiorcǎieli.
Pe cruce, un trup verde — e culoarea descompunerii — atârnă vlǎguit, dar are o tabletă în locul capului, nu știm cine e, nu vedem fața celui care moare. Deus ex machina, dar mașina a înlocuit zeul.
Dacă Iisus ar mai fi rǎstignit azi, altfel s-ar întâmpla lucrurile, am face promo-uri, ora ar fi bine aleasǎ, pentru audiențe mai bune, înainte ar cânta Snoop Dog şi apoi, "dupǎ", veştmintele Domnului ar fi scoase la licitație caritabilǎ pentru ONG-ul care se ocupǎ de salvarea bufnițelor cu burticǎ roz.
Iisus cu capul ca tableta e cel mai cinstit Isus pe care l-am putut picta acum, pentru că oamenii nu mai au nevoie de un Dumnezeu cu chip — ci de un Dumnezeu pe care să proiecteze ce vor - o maşinǎ electricǎ, un concediu în Maldive sau un autograf de la CR7.

In other times, Mary Magdalene stayed at the foot of the Cross after everyone had left, to weep for Jesus. Today, we no longer have such Magdalenes; we have a young woman in red jeans and neon Nikes livestreaming the crucifixion, documenting it, making sure the transmission looks good — she has no time for lamentation.
On the cross hangs a green body — the color of decomposition — limp and drained, but with a tablet instead of a head. We don’t know who he is; we cannot see the face of the one who dies. Deus ex machina, except the machine has replaced God.
If Jesus were crucified today, everything would unfold differently: we’d make promos, we’d choose the perfect broadcast hour for higher ratings, Snoop Dogg would perform beforehand, and afterward the Lord’s garments would be auctioned for charity to benefit an NGO that rescues owls with pink bellies.
Jesus with a tablet for a head is the most honest Jesus I could paint today, because people no longer need a God with a face — they need a God onto whom they can project whatever they want: an electric car, a holiday in the Maldives, or an autograph from CR7.
